the game boy color came out in 1998 and is the successor to the original
grey brick game boy, which came out in 1989. like the name suggests,
the GBC allowed games to display in more colors than were possible on the GB.

while the amount of colors able to be displayed on screen were still very
limited versus on a home console like the super nintendo (SNES) or the mega drive/sega genesis,
developers got massively creative with the limitations and made what i think are some of
the prettiest looking games even still today.

the GBC was slimmer than the GB, came in many different colors, and used half as many AA batteries as the GB.
plus, all GB games worked on the GBC!

there's a charm to this kind of simple yet vibrant look that i can't get enough of!

note: these screen captures are typically done via an emulator displayed on a LCD screen and
do not properly emulate how they would look on the actual hardware.

here's some music that i like from games on the GB/GBC!
